ABOUt MEG

I am a Psychotherapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Northern Vermont. In my private practice I work with clients located in the state of Vermont, New York and Virginia.

I treat adolescents (13-18) and adults. My clients tend to be creative, passionate, intelligent people who face challenges with emotional dysregulation, turning down the volume on intrusive thoughts, healing from traumatic experiences, and treating themselves and their bodies with the kindness and compassion they deserve.

I have years of experience working in the mental health field; working in community mental health and private practice. In addition to my practice I work on a comprehensive DBT team in group private practice. I have expertise in providing individual therapy, crisis counseling, and facilitating adult and multi-family skills groups. As well as providing supervison and consultation for other clinicians working towards licensure.

When I am not working, you can find me outside. Either in my garden or hiking in the forest. I am a strong believer and recipient of the healing properties of nature and movement. I am an avid downhill skier, marathon runner and mountain biker. I use the DBT skills regularly in my own life. One of my favorite DBT skills is Accumulating Positives. One of my favorite ways to practice this skill is by sitting near a camp fire with my husband and two dogs.

Education, Experience and Trainings

I received my graduate degree from Columbia University School of Social Work. While there I was intensively trained in the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) training program under the guidance of Dr. Andre Ivanhoff.  I deeply believe in the DBT modality which combines an ideal balance of mindfulness and behavioral therapy, and am in the process of completing the requirements for DBT-Linehan Board Certification. In addition to my extensive training in DBT, I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy through EMDRI (EMDR International Association), as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE) protocol, which is designed to treat PTSD and trauma symptoms among suicidal, self-injuring and multi-diagnostic individuals receiving DBT.

I also have expertise in the following modalities: Exposure and Response Prevention (Ex/RP) therapy which is highly effective at treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and anxiety; and Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT), a modality created to help individuals with disorders of over-control. I have attended conferences and engaged in extensive studies of the treatment of disordered eating and body image dissatisfaction. I am in gratitude that I have had the privilege to gain the training and on going consultation that I have and the opportunity to utilize these various treatments with clients and support them in achieving their life worth living.

Ultimately my passion lies with treating and assisting people in healing from PTSD and traumatic memories, and I hope to embody the words of Michele Rosenthal in my work with survivors, “Trauma creates change you don’t choose. Healing is about creating change you do choose.”
